Application

To be admitted to the Master's programme in Choreography, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification from a university, university of applied sciences, or art academy, either in Germany or abroad, or competences and skills acquired through professional qualifications that are typically equivalent to a university education.
  • Special artistic talent, demonstrating not only choreographic ability but also solid dance skills.
  • Presentation of your own choreographic works in a public performance context.
  • Knowledge of the German language, sufficient to follow lessons, understand texts, and write independently (minimum level B2 according to the CEFR).

Admission Procedure

The admission process consists of a pre-selection and an entrance exam. The pre-selection is based on the submitted application documents and determines whether you will be invited to the entrance exam. Invitations will be sent in writing.

 

Required Documents

  • Your degree certificate or university entrance qualification, as well as proof of competences and skills acquired through professional qualifications, which correspond to those typically associated with a university education.
  • If your university entrance qualification was obtained at a non-German-speaking institution: proof of German language skills at least at level A2.
  • A motivation letter in German or English (800 to 1000 words), outlining the reasons for your application and clearly indicating the artistic projects and thematic focuses you wish to pursue during the course.
  • A statement about your own artistic work and its positioning within the contemporary art context.
  • One or more choreographic work samples (maximum of 15 minutes in total).

You can apply online for the entrance procedure during the application period from 1st September to 30th September. The link to the portal can be found here.

Applications by post or email are not accepted.

To access the online portal, please register with your email address and personal details. You will then receive an email to activate your account. Follow the instructions in the portal, which will guide you step by step through the system. You can interrupt the application process at any time without losing your data.

Before starting your online application, please ensure that you have the following documents ready in digital form (pdf, jpg, etc.):

  • Your relevant certificates and educational qualifications.
  • A motivation letter.
  • An artistic statement.
  • Your choreographic work sample(s).

Please do not send additional documents by post. You are also required to upload your choreographic work sample(s) to the portal and provide the link and, if necessary, the password in the application portal.

The portal allows you to track the current status of your application at any time.

Only one application is allowed. If you submit multiple applications, the last one received will be considered binding.

Incorrect information will result in exclusion from the application process or loss of the study place.

A processing fee of 30 euros applies to the application. After submitting your application, you will receive a payment request with a personalised reference. This can be found in your portal inbox once you have submitted the application by clicking the green button.

Note

If you obtained your (higher) education qualification abroad (excluding Switzerland, Austria, and German schools abroad), please check the recognition of your qualification in the Anabin database here.

In the database, you can request a certificate evaluation and upload it to the application portal under "Personal Data" in the "Files and Documents" section.

Costs

A fee of 30.00 € is charged for the admission procedure at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch. No further fee is charged for an invitation to the entrance exam.

The semester fee to the student union, which also includes a semester ticket, is currently around 300 €. No tuition fees are charged for this programme.

If you wish to attend individual courses of the MA in Choreography without being enrolled at a university, you can apply as a guest auditor.
